Annual Meeting & Recognition Banquette
The annual meeting and recognition banquet is held the end of April or early May. At the meeting, the general membership elects new board members, the president and receives the annual financial statement. The next year’s budget is approved. Skaters who have passed USFSA tests during the preceding year receive their certificates and pins or patches. Graduating high school seniors are also honored.
Bulletin Board
The bulletin boards at the rinks are used to communicate schedule changes, additional ice availability, and other announcements. Be sure to check the bulletin boards every time you skate.
Christmas City of the North Parade
Club members and professional staff get together and build a float for the Christmas City of the North Parade. The parade takes place in downtown Duluth the Friday before Thanksgiving. Skaters dress in club warm-up suits or other skating attire and walk with the float. After the parade, skaters gather for a pizza party.
Email
Email is also used to communicate to club members between monthly mailing. Schedule changes, events notifications, and general information are communicated electronically. If you have an email address and are not currently receiving communication, send you email address to dfsc_news@hotmail.com
Holiday Exhibition Ice Show
In early December there is the annual holiday exhibition ice show. This exhibition is created by the skaters and allows them to show their creativity and have fun! The emphasis of this show is on fun rather than competition. No solos. The skaters organized their own groups, picked and cut their own music, choreographed the numbers, and create the costumes. There was no professional help. Non-perishable food items which are donated to the Salvation Army and toys which are donated to Toys for Tots are the cost of the admission. A post show party follows.
Newsletter
The back of the monthly calendar acts as a “mini” newsletter. Other club notifications are included with the monthly mailings.
Spring Recital
The spring recital combines club skaters with learn-to-skate skaters (see page 34) in an exhibition. This is a chance for the skate school skaters to show what they have learned.
Summer Picnic
The summer picnic for skaters and their families is held at the end of the summer session. This event includes food, games, and fun.
